As I get back into the business of photographing and sharing images in 2011, I thought I would start by looking back at some of my favorite photographs from the preceding year. Not surprisingly (to those who know me) I found myself constantly drawn back to images from Yosemite National Park. In part this is because I made two week-long trips back to California this year to return to this tremendous park, but also because it just resonates with me so much. Closer to home, Mount Rainier and Olympic National Park also found their way into my top 10, along with one photograph from Glacier National Park in Montana.
Compiling a list of favorites is a difficult task. On the one hand I don't share any images that I don't like to at least some degree - in other words at some point I liked each photograph sufficiently to share it. On the other hand, as the photographer I rarely take a photograph I don't subsequently second-guess my decisions, or focus on the perceived deficiencies. The extent to which I favor any image or any other therefore changes constantly. However, there are a handful of images that resonate with me the most, and I have compiled those into this list, in really no particular order. Click the thumbnails below to see the full-size image (which you can click to follow back to its original post). I typically provide an excessive description to every image I post, so for a rare change I shall post the full sized images without any further commentary.
